Brothers & Sisters focuses on the lives of the multi-generational Walker family. After the death of the family's patriarch, William Walker (recurring guest star Tom Skerritt), each of the Walker family children along with the family matriarch, Nora Walker (Sally Field), must come together as they navigate the bumpy road that lies ahead. To further complicate the matters, William's mistress Holly (Patricia Wettig) always seems to find herself in the Walker family problems. However, Nora does look for help from her older brother Saul (Ron Rifkin).

The lives of the Walker children are just as complex as their parents' lives. Sarah (Rachel Griffiths),the eldest, balances her career with being a single mother to her two children. Tommy (Balthazar Getty), the oldest son, is dealing with the separation from his wife and daughter. Kitty (Calista Flockhart) is hot on her campaign trail after a run in with cancer. Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and his husband Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) are expecting their first child after their surrogate finds out that she is pregnant. And then there's Justin (Dave Annable), who is in med school and recently has gotten married to Rebecca (Emily VanCamp).
