Post Description
It’s all about flow.
Whatever I’m doing - scoring for orchestra, a film, making an album, playing a gig or spinning tracks in some dark East London club - there’s always been a journey. Sometimes when you just fall inside yourself and the music’s all you hear, you feel connected - like you’re inside that flow and there’s nothing else. You’re just drifting.
I don’t know anything about "favourite" tracks. This is just a stream of consciousness - a torrent of sound that burns through your mind when you’re staring up at the ceiling or alone in a crowd.
Some songs feel like they were always waiting to be heard - Brown Sugar, Biscuits, Mustt Mustt, Teardrop - In India they say a melody, a classical raga, is in the air around you - that you’re just a medium for the raga to manifest itself, that there is no performance. The purity of creation is discovery. These songs work in that same way - interwoven into the fabric of time... Bittersweet gems like "Memorias Perdias" recall the pain of some old memory where "Waltz for Koop" glides through the summer air with carefree abandon, "Run" feels like a staged battle of internal states where "Black Gold" surges through the caverns of your mind with the epic fizz of a restless ocean. Timeless melodies....
A great song is always relevant, impervious to the fickle ebb and flow of fashion. This is 2007.Timeless. Nitin Sawhney. March 2007.
