Something about this album captured more than just the core of jazz buffs and fans of Taylor's exquisite acoustic jazz guitar. It sold remarkably well and was universally applauded. Taylor is supported by Alec Dankworth (bass), Dave O'Higgins (sax), Jack Emblow (accordion) and guitarist John Goldie. The concept of paying homage by playing in Django's style, but not necessarily following his songs, is highly original. To choose to Djangoize Gershwin's "Lady Be Good" and Cole Porter's "Night And Day" was clever. To Djangoize Robert Palmer's "Johnny And Mary" and Pat Metheny's James Taylor tribute, "James," was inspiring
