Post Description
Both of Maurice Hammond's North American Aviation (NAA) P-51D Mustangs ultimately pay the same kind of tribute to USAAF airmen who flew and fought from airfields in East Anglia during the Second World War. However, the stories behind these two fighters, which form the central focus of this Haynes Manual on the type, are in stark contrast from two points of view - one in terms of forming the basis for a restoration project and the other with regard to combat veteran status. It is these very differences that make this brace of Mustangs ideally suited to show the variances in the pedigree and originality of the many P-51 warbirds that still fly around the world today. While Janie hasthe bragging rights over the large quantity of original material retained in its restoration, Marineil is a genuine Second World War combat veteran - and therefore being based at a former Eighth Air Force station is the ultimate tribute to the US airmen who fought and died while flying from the UK.
