Het Britse vijftal Mamas Gun vernoemde zich naar een album van Erykah Badu, maar ligt muzikaal toch meer in het verlengde van acts als Jamiroquai of Maroon 5. Hitgevoelige funk dus eigenlijk, met fraaie soulinvloeden.
Mamas Gun brengt een combinatie van soul en motown met de bezieling van Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lewis Taylor en de Average White Band. Mojo Magazine omschreef hun muziek als: Blue Eyed motown soul.... mixes Hall and Oates with the Isley Brothers plus a narcotic Curtis Mayfield/Sly Stone intensity.
