The plan was in place, and the date was chosen. On August 17th, 1945,
Hitler hoped to drop an atomic bomb on San Francisco. The coordinated effort
with the Japanese was designed to end World War II. But Germany fell
in the spring of 1945, and Japan fought on alone until August 6th,
when an American Superfortress dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, ending the war.
