Ella Fitzgerald (Newport News (Virginia), 25 april 1917 - Beverly Hills (Californië), 15 juni 1996) wordt beschouwd als één van de grootste jazzzangeressen ooit.[1] Ze werd dan ook roemend 'The First Lady of Song' genoemd en won dertien Grammy Awards. Haar stem had een groot bereik van drie octaven, een duidelijke uitspraak en leende zich tevens prima voor scatzang. De enige kritiek die men weleens heeft is dat haar zang zich eigenlijk niet leende voor het wat minder opgewekte repertoire


A collection of love songs from the "First Lady of Song", many of which Miss Ella helped turn into standards. Highlights include the Gershwin brothers' "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "I've Got a Crush on You," Cole Porter's bouncy "From This Moment On" and Irving Berlin's classic (also popularized by Patsy Cline) "Always." Just like fine wine, these songs have gotten better over time with the help of the late, great Ella Fitzgerald.
