Post Description
The Churchill was the fourth type of Infantry tank to be built by this country and many modifications to the details of the original design were introduced in later models. One feature was common to all types-they were under-gunned in comparison to the enemy AFVs they had to face: in addition the early tanks were unreliable. This was rectified to a large extent by the manufacturers on the reports of their unit teams and travelling inspectors, and crowned by the increasing skill of the crews who made the tank the formidable fighting machine it proved itself to be. The Churchill undertook an astonishing variety of tasks and was used as a gun tank with varying armaments, as a flame-thrower, as a bridgelayer, and in Royal Engineer hands as a demolition vehicle, as a bridging vehicle and as an explosive mine clcarer
